I had a hip replacement almost 7 weeks ago performed by Mr Carrothers. I was already familiar with Mr Carrothers, I had previously been an NHS patient with him and found him very compassionate and reassuring. The operation has been very successful and I would highly recommend his work. I am already pain-free and have a good and still improving quality of life. Carrothers Orthopaedic team are very professional and the secretary Carol is very helpful and understanding.

Having had a very successful right knee replacement carried out by Mr Carrothers in 2019, I was thrilled to hear from the Spire Hospital that he would be replacing my left knee in July this year. Once again, he has done a brilliant job, and even with all the pressures of this COVID pandemic, he has remained calm reassuring and professional. I cannot thank him enough for taking away the constant pain of osteoarthritis, and giving me the ability to enjoy walking again.

I first met Mr Carrothers in his Clinic at the Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital in February 2021. I presented with severe hip, groin and lower back pain which had been plaguing me for over 2 years and had worsened over the recent winter months. It had become so debilitating that the pain was preventing me from doing my regularly activities and affecting my sleep. When sitting and walking I was constantly in pain and it was making me utterly miserable. Mr Carrothers listened very carefully and attentively to all my symptoms and after reviewing the MRI together he explained what would be advisable moving forward. Mr Carrothers very kindly offered to get me booked in for surgery quite quickly and on the 23rd of March 2021 performed a Right MAKO Total Hip Replacement, Carol coordinated and organised everything beautifully and nothing was too much trouble. Mr Razeen Mahroof anaesthetised with a spinal sedation, I was quite nervous, however he was gentle and reassuring. I am now 5 months post op. I am so happy and excited to share that I am completely pain free, I have full range of motion and movement in my new hip. I have returned to all the activities that I could not do prior to surgery, walking effortlessly for miles, ride my bike, swim and have recently been kayaking, surprising myself at how effortlessly I was able to get in and out of the kayak. I would like to make a mention that I followed religiously the physiotherapy program that was set out and although this was tough in the beginning, it has certainly played an important role in the recovery and rehabilitation to be where I am now. The hip replacement surgery performed by Mr Carrothers has been completely life changing and I truly couldn't wish for more. Mr Carrothers has been so kind in his approach and his care has been exceptional and commendable throughout the whole process and I would like to take this opportunity to personally recommend and thank him, Mr Mahroof, Carol and his team for all the life changing great work that they continue to do. I am so very grateful and feel privileged to have been his patient.

My experience with Mr. Carrothers has been nothing short of outstanding. He really listens, takes his time to answer questions, is kind and thoughtful, and thorough. Through surgery and prescribing a particular medicine, he has made me pain free for the first time in many years. I call him my Miracle Doctor. I went to see Mr. Carrothers in December 2019 because I had pain in my hip that was increasing rapidly. This was complicated by the stenosis at L2/L3 in my back. I was scheduled to have decompression surgery on my back in January 2020. Mr. Carrothers listened carefully to my concerns and patiently answered the list of questions I had brought with me. He was thorough in reviewing my MRI, liaising with my neurosurgeon regarding my back, and in examining my hip and my movement and flexibility. I appreciated that he was taking all factors into consideration and not rushing into the surgical option. He suggested an injection into my hip to see if that eased the pain, which would provide him with information that would indicate whether or not a hip replacement would actually be the best solution. In the end, that became the last and best option. However, Covid happened and private elective surgeries were postponed. I chose to wait until my second vaccination became valid and had my surgery in June 2021. Waiting a full year, my hip deteriorated significantly and I was in severe pain all of the time. I couldn't sleep more than two hours without getting up and walking; often my sleep was interrupted after only half an hour or so. I could barely walk or shuffle, taking tiny steps with the help of a cane and only left my home twice during the month before my surgery. The constant pain from my sciatic nerve made things worse. I had my surgery on 29 June and have not had a minute's pain since then! During the surgery, Mr. Carrothers could see how inflamed my sciatic nerve was and he prescribed a medicine that has completely eliminated the sciatic pain. I have had not pain from the surgery nor the recovery. I am walking better than I have walked in two years and am totally pain free. Mr. Carrothers is a miracle doctor!
